Online Dance Course

Our online Maracatu dance course covers the basics of Maracatu movements for this traditional form of carnival dance, that has deep roots in Afro-Brazilian traditions, and is a major form of carnival in Recife, Brazil.

The course offers the same high quality teaching as our in-person classes, and is brought to you by 3 of the UK’s most experienced Brazilian Maracatu performers, Ricardo Axé, Gladys Cavalcante, and Jully Caxiado.

Open to dancers of all levels and experiences who are new or returning to Maracatu, the course includes three 45 minute live zoom classes, and six 20 minute pre-recorded video classes. They cover dance technique and step-by-step moves, as-well-as an introduction to the history, culture, and songs of Maracatu. By the end of the course you will be able to dance a set routine to music, and have an understanding of the basics and history of this style of dance.
