Online Maracatu Dance Course
In March 2021 we are running an online course of Maracatu dance classes. The course will cover the basics of Maracatu movements for this traditional form of carnival dance, that has deep roots in Afro-Brazilian traditions and is a major form of carnival in Recife, Brazil.
This online course offers the same high quality teaching as our in-person classes, and is brought to you by 3 of the UK’s most experienced Brazilian Maracatu performers, Ricardo Axé, Gladys Cavalcante, and Jully Caxiado.
Open to dancers of all levels and experiences who are new or returning to Maracatu, the course includes three 45 minute live zoom classes, and six 20 minute pre-recorded video classes. They cover dance technique and step-by-step moves, dancing a set routine to music, as-well-as an introduction to the history, culture, and songs of Maracatu. By the end of the course you will be able to dance a set routine, and have an understanding of the basics and history of the dance.
The 3 live Zoom classes will run over 3 Saturdays:
13.03.21, 20.03.21, and 27.03.21 at 4pm GMT.
The 6 pre-recorded video classes will be released as pairs the week before each live Zoom class.
Cost: £20
